I have been starting to slip. A little bit. Not too badly, though. First off, I’m like 5 days behind in my marathon blog. Not a huge deal, but it is the start of slippage, so I’m going to catch up today.
My run today was good. Again, I did not hold my speed, but I did average 5.6 mph, which just simply seems to be ‘my speed.’ If I am able to hold 5.6 mph for the duration of the marathon, I will be ecstatic, so I won’t beat myself up for it now. I also managed to easily cover the distance, and then some with warm-up, cool-down, and having my route so messed up that I hit 4.9 miles when I was still like 3/4 of a mile away from home.
Like I said, I had a little bit of difficulty with my route. I had planned to go through the lovely grounds of the Pointe South Mountain resort which is very close to our house, but when I got onto the grounds, I was turned around repeatedly by construction, so I eventually had to abandon that plan and go a whole different way. I imagine I was somewhat slowed by some of the turn-arounds, but I doubt I would have gone much over 5.7 mph had I been able to do my route as planned.
It is interesting to me to note that today was one of my ‘long’ runs, but it was not one of my 10 really long runs which are every other week. However, the distance of this ‘shorter’ long run is the same as the 2nd of my 10 really long runs, so my shorter long runs have become as long as some of my early longer long runs, if that makes sense to anyone but me.
In any event, I’m feeling good and I’m feeling like I’m back on track after a slight slip.
