I shuffled my training schedule around a little bit because I am so excited about my current running speed. I think I am finally running fast enough that I might even be able to place in my age category at one of these little, local, fun 5k races, so I started looking for one I would be able to do. As luck would have it, there weren’t ANY that fit well into my schedule.
The only thing that I could find that was even close was the Cave Creek Luminaria run and that one is 4 miles and it is essentially held in the dark, so I was not too sure about my abilities under those conditions, but it’s the only one that even came close to fitting, so I conned my mom and my husband to walk it while I ran it and then we could have dinner afterwards, in Cave Creek. So, I switched my rest day around so I could have it today, before the race, to give myself the best chance of reaching my goal.
I’m so nervous and so excited. I have it all planned out – I will have to start running at least 13-14 minutes before the race, so I can slowly warm myself up to the proper speed. Then I’ll have to hold about 7 mph for the duration if I want a chance at placing in my age category. I don’t know if I can do it or not, but I know I’m really ready to at least try it!
