Piece of cake. Boy, this speed thing is really something else. Trying to run at 5.45 mph is simply not a challenge, and I ran this 4 miles at 5.7 mph, despite all my best efforts to let myself slow down and run at a lower speed. Compare this to the days I try to hold 6 mph, only to struggle the whole time and end up with 5.6 mph and feel totally defeated, it just doesn’t make any sense. It appears that “my” speed right now is right about at 5.6 mph. Slower than that doesn’t feel like a challenge and faster than that feels impossible, but right at 5.6, that feels about right. I want to slowly drive that pace up a little bit by race day so that my required race pace of 5.26 doesn’t even feel like work at all.
