So, this is where I really could have started slipping, to just skip my long run, but I didn’t. I did get going rather late, but I did get going. I also got going very slowly, but I did, nonetheless, get going.
I didn’t hit my target speed of 5.6 mph, but I was close at 5.5. That’s still above the 5.25 I need to do on Race Day, so I’ll take it. I don’t know what was with me, but man, I just could not get going. It took me like a half-mile just to get close to speed and then I just started my timer anyhow just ’cause I didn’t want to keep putting in distance that wasn’t gonna count. However, I bet I did the first 3 miles under speed, it was just ridiculous. I was faster on the back half of the run, making up some of my lost time, but not enough to completely undo the damage I had done during the first half. Oh well.
In any event, I did the 7.5 miles fairly effortlessly, despite that I just couldn’t get up to speed, and I enjoyed my run through some cute neighborhoods and over a few of my favorite nearby bridges. Although I look forward to next week, I also am quite aware that my training is just getting – what seems to be – exponentially more difficult. It won’t be long ’till this is all over, though, and I’ll be bummed out when that happens, so I guess I better just enjoy this.
