DAY ONE HUNDRED ELEVEN – PACER – 3 MILES AT 6 MPH = 10 MINUTE MILE PACE

This run was ROUGH.

I just ran 17.4 miles yesterday and I have this feeling that that sort of run entitles me to like 6 weeks of rest and recovery and here, some imbecile has put a 3-mile run on my calendar the day AFTER a 17.4 mile run. Who’s crazy idea was any of this?!?!

I managed to tell myself that 3 miles really wasn’t any distance at all, and besides, at 6 mph, it would only take like 30 minutes to do the run, so just get out and get it over with.

My knees were tired and it was cold out, so when I started the run, I felt like my legs were made out of ice and that they might just shatter at any given moment, if I came down on my feet too hard. However, I was eager to get that run over with, so I started hustling as fast as I could to get up to speed.

I kept up a good speed and actually averaged 6.4 mph. Since my speed was so good, I went ahead and ran 3.11 miles to get a 5k time for myself. It was 29:09, not bad at all. Had I done that in the recent New Times 5k, I would have come in 385th out of 812 participants, or 18th in my age/gender bracket of 55 contestants. Not bad at all!
