I guess I really didn’t want to do my run today. First I wasted a bunch of time at home, so I was running so late I barely had time to do my run. Then, I forgot my clothes at home and didn’t remember that until I was about a mile away from home (on my bicycle), so I almost decided to ditch the run, but I didn’t, and I went back to the house to get my clothes. I had no sooner left the house, when I remembered that I had also forgotten my breakfast. I realized I did have food at work I could have eaten, but I had already made it, so it seemed stupid to waste it, so I quick popped back into the house and got my breakfast.
I finally got to the office and hurriedly packed up my gym bag and walked briskly over to the gym because now I was really running out of time, and I put my stuff in my locker, and boom, where’s my clothes? Ay yi yi! I had left them at work.
I did have my workout clothes and my shower stuff, but not my work clothes to change into after the shower, but I knew they were at the office. I laughed at how repeatedly I seemed to be trying to get out of this workout and I devised a plan. I’d just go ahead and do my run, take my shower, then temporarily put my gross, sweaty clothes back on, just to walk back to the office, then change into my work clothes. Not a great solution, but the solution I really wanted was to skip the run entirely and I didn’t pick that.
Now, as for the run, I played 3 songs to get me up to speed, then I just locked in in at 7 mph and concentrated on staying alive ’till 3.5 miles had elapsed. I did not like it at all. I was really struggling throughout the whole thing, but long about mile 2 or so, I realized that when I first started, I had all I could do to hit a quarter-mile at this speed, so I had to give myself credit for how far I had come, but the final mile and a half was still excruciating. It seemed like I’d run forever and not accumulate any mileage, which was, of course, impossible, but it still felt like that’s what was happening.
I eventually made it and was very glad that I had persisted. I was also pleasantly surprised to find some extra workout clothes in my bag, so I also didn’t have to wear my sweaty stuff after my shower, at least. I got to work with like only 10 minutes to spare, but no one else was even there yet, so no one even knew how very close I had cut it on the time.
I jumped right into work and didn’t really have a chance to think much more about my morning, but man, was I hungry and sleepy for most of the rest of the day. I think this is the point at which the marathon training is going to start to take somewhat of a toll on me. I hope I can keep up with my schedule, though, because I’ve been doing so well so far that I’d hate to start losing it now when there is still a fair amount of time left until the event.
